Remembering Keisha Dare-2-Dream Foundation Dare-2-Drive Defensively Contact
~ The Keisha MacDonald Dare 2 Drive Defensively Program ~

The Michigan State Police Precision Driving Unit will offer training classes for civilians for the first time this summer. The "Train like a Trooper" classes are open to teenagers with a valid Level 2 Drivers License. The classes will be held at the MSP Training Academy at 7426 North Canal Road in Lansing. You need to provide your own transportation to the site. The cost of the one day session is $100.

This defensive driving class is designed to help prepare teen drivers for potentially hazardous situations. The students will go through many of the same driving exercises State Troopers go through in their training. The skill lessons will include:

•   maneuvering a car in confined areas

•   evasive driving maneuvers to avoid objects in the road

•   heavy braking maneuvers

•   driving on the MSP's skid pad which simulates icy or slippery road conditions

Troopers will also emphasize avoiding distractions while driving.

The Keisha MacDonald Dare 2 Dream Foundation is offering scholarships for four students to attend the "Train like a Trooper" class offered on June 18, 2008. Keisha MacDonald was killed in a car accident near Charlotte when she was 18 years old, on February 20, 2007. Her family started this foundation to help young people pursue dreams of modeling/theatric careers. Keisha was a model, and was about to embark on a successful career when she died. Another goal of the foundation involves educating teens about the dangers they may face on the roads, and help them become defensive drivers.

The MacDonald family is trying to turn their heartbreak of losing their precious daughter Keisha into something that will hopefully spare other families from suffering the horrible grief that they are now faced with every single day. They want their "Dare 2 Dream" foundation to not only help support young people who dare to chase their dreams, but to help keep them safe so their dreams aren't lost, the way Keisha's were.
